Welcome – A Quick Tour

Welcome and thanks for signing up!

We’ve designed the system to be as easy and intuitive to use as possible. But you want, we’ll show you how to use the dashboard to manage your virtual private server (VPS) inventory. On the Dashboard starting page you’ll see a few items. The menu on the left includes a link back to the Dashboard, a link to the list of your virtual machines, as well as a link to your account profile, a list of invoices, and a link to the Layerboom Support systems, which is built on Zendesk.

Dashboard

Overview of Account Resources

This is just a sum of all the resources you have in your account. For example if you have 10 virtual machines with 256MB of RAM you’ll see 2560MB Ram in this list. Pretty straightforward

Recent Layerboom Accouncements

This is a list of announcements that are pulled from blog.layerboom.com. It’s a way that we can get in touch with frequent control panel users, without necessarily having to send you an irritating email you probably won’t read.

Virtual Machines

This is a list of the Virtual Machines you have running on your account. When you’re first starting out, you should see at least one virtual machine in this list. This is the VM you created when you signed up. You can click on the name of the virtual machine for a more detailed view of the VM itself.

Virtual Machines

My Virtual Machines

Just like the list on the dashboard page, “My Virtual Machines” lists all the virtual machines running in your environment. You’ll notice the status ofthe VM – this will be one of “Stopped, Started, Creating, Starting or Deleting”. You’ll also get information about the public IP address, how long the VM has existed for, and a link you can click on for more details. Click that link.

VM Detail View

The VM Detail View includes details (!) about your virtual machine. There is also a history of events that have happened to your VM. You’ll see creation times and start time in this list. You can perform certain actions on your VM. You can choose to reboot or delete your virtual machine through the detail view. You can also start a console that will give you direct access to the virtual machine for troubleshooting purposes. Click on the ‘Console’ button in the top right.

Console

The console is an AJAX application which connects to your virtual machine in order to provide you with a way to troubleshoot your system. The page should be black. If at first you don’t see anything try hitting a key to prompt the system. Otherwise it’s identical to an SSH session but delivered over a browser.

Account

Profile

This is where you can update your account profile and billing details. ‘Nuff said.

Invoices

Invoices are generated at the end of your current billing cycle. Your billing cycle is set by the day you signed up. If you don’t see anything in there then it simply means we haven’t generated an invoice for you yet. If you know you should have an invoice by now just get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to solve your problem.
