Customized Offering Empowers Digital Developers with Affordable, High- Performance, Instantly Scalable Dev/Build Resources to Meet Client Demands

New York and San Francisco (August 25, 2010) — Joyent, the premiere provider of smart computing solutions, today announced the launch of its Smart Solution for Digital Agencies, a new one-stop-shop program designed to meet the unique needs of digital development agencies with infinitely scalable capacity backed by professional services to empower innovation and reduce project start-up costs. Joyent debuted the new offering at Digital DUMBO #19, a gathering of the technology community in the Brooklyn neighborhood of New York City.

“Joyent has a long history of supporting the app development efforts of the most progressive digital agencies with the high-performance, stable capacity they need to rapidly scale their applications to meet client demands,” said Adrian Ludwig, Vice President of Marketing with Joyent. “With this new Smart Solution, we looked at the whole production lifecycle and optimized our platform to deliver an end-to-end service tailored specifically to meet the needs of a digital agency, all the way from test dev through production and the infrastructure to deliver the entire campaign.”

Backed by Joyent’s unique capacity to support rapid spin-up or spin-down of resources on demand, the new Smart Solution for Digital Agencies leverages Joyent’s innovative Smart Technologies to provide critical resources for the creation of interactive content, games and media, including:

•	Free access to smart computing infrastructure during the build process to enable more efficient and affordable start-up and eliminate up-front investment in capacity to help protect critical cash flow, particularly when building on spec.

•	Free professional services from Joyent solution architects to assist agencies in effectively building high-scale, high-performance infrastructure, relieving agencies of the capacity management burden and allowing them to concentrate on innovation and creativity.

•	End-to-end infrastructure availability that eliminates the hand-off of assets when a project moves into production. This ability to provide complete campaign services—from development to delivery—reduces the risk of incompatibility and provides agencies with greater flexibility in meeting customers’ needs.

•	Added revenue opportunities are available through a new reseller license program. Agencies can bundle discounted app delivery into their product pitch for a more comprehensive package, or take advantage of a referral compensation program for recommending the Joyent Smart Technologies to their clients.

“Joyent delivers world class infrastructure that we rely on to launch massively scalable Facebook applications,” said Rafi Jacoby, Director of Research and Development with Context Optional, an award-winning social marketing company that helps Fortune 500 brands build, moderate and track their social presence. ”Joyent understands the unique needs of developers and provides a service that enables our team to focus more on innovation and less on infrastructure management.”

Joyent partnered with Traffic Marketplace to sponsor the Digital DUMBO #19 “Let’s Get Social” mixer event at The Dumbo Loft in Brooklyn.

It will take place on Wednesday, August 25 at 11 am PDT/ 2pm EDT.

This is one of those topics that can raise blood pressure and get the heart racing, but Joyent founder and Chief Scientist Jason Hoffman and Chief Security Officer Ryan Bagnulo will engage you in a calm discussion that covers how security in the cloud is (and is not) different from your own physical infrastructure, what providers should do to protect data, and what the default security settings should be in the cloud.

Sign up here and join the conversation.

Wednesday July 21st, 2010 11-12am PDT
Speaker: Jason Hoffman, Chief Scientist, Joyent

Updated July 22, 2010: A recording of the webinar can be found here. We hope you enjoy it.

Businesses that fully exploit the new opportunities the cloud presents to enhance the performance and scale of applications will be able to improve employee productivity, increase bottom line profits, and grow their customer base. But success isn’t guaranteed. As companies move from premises-based data centers to private and public cloud computing infrastructure, they need to carefully consider the architecture of their applications and data to make a safe and smooth transition.

Some of the most important considerations to obtain performance and scale in the cloud include:

Making certain that application performance is optimized when written for deployment on the cloud

Planning how to most efficiently scale horizontally and vertically to meet their future capacity and performance demands

Avoiding replication of complex, existing data center infrastructures in the cloud

In this interactive webinar, Joyent’s Chief Scientist Jason Hoffman will discuss how businesses can avoid common pitfalls in their transition to the cloud through smart application development and by ensuring that their cloud vendor provides dynamic scalability and performance. Attendees are invited to read the Joyent White Paper “Performance and Scale in Cloud Computing” before the event and bring your questions or comments with you.
